Watch dog timer

Hi!

I am new to BlinkStick but I am glad I found this because it’s exactly what I am looking for.

I maintain about 45 (and growing) machines in a private cloud for my startup, they are mac, windows, and linux. I have found trying to manually maintain and organize this number of machines is not really practical so I have it 100% automated to the point where I don’t even bother labeling each machine. I have install scripts that get each new machine setup with a basic ssh account, connect it to my switch backbone, and then my scripts take over the machine.

I want to use BlinkStick to help flag machines that I need to locate or that have stopped working for some reason. I would like to be able to set a watch dog timer on the usb device itself so that if my management code doesn’t reset the timer through the API it will turn a specific color and blink pattern (like fast flashing red). I see the firmware has been made open source but it has not been updated in 12 years.

Could this be a easy and reasonable feature request? Is it still possible to compile and update the firmware? Any help or pointers in the right direction would be very appreciated.

Thanks!
Brent
